About the position

The Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will be part of the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) team at Northrop Grumman, focusing on developing solutions for missile defense systems. This role involves collaboration with systems and specialty engineers throughout the systems development life cycle, ensuring high-quality products are delivered on time. The engineer will support various tasks, interface with management and government customers, and contribute to the integration of missile defense capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Use Case briefing development support to junior systems engineering team members.
  • Support the development and review of Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Requirements, and Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM).
  • Author and perform formal and informal engineering reviews.
  • Adhere to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing technical products and acting as a technical interface to MDA counterparts.
  • Participate in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning and agile team leadership.
  • Analyze high-level needs and define a structured approach to refine capabilities into integrated requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings clearly.
  • Write and implement project engineering plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience for Principal Systems Engineer.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer.
  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts such as Interface Control Documents and Use Cases Briefings.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other engineers.
  • Proven track record of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Ability to write and implement engineering plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment.
  • Domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense.
  • Experience in mission analysis and SysML modeling in support of MBSE.
  • A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher.
