About the position

The Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer position at Northrop Grumman involves working within the Tactical Space Division to support key Systems Engineering deliverables for space flight programs aimed at advancing Human Exploration and Operations beyond Low Earth Orbit. The role requires independent problem-solving and interaction with various stakeholders to address complex technical challenges in the development of space systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to all or selected segments for the embedded SE team
  • Provide dedicated systems engineering support within subsystem engineering disciplines such as mechanical, thermal, environmental control, life support systems, software, and avionics
  • Support the development of space vehicle and/or ground segment design and analysis efforts
  • Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems
  • Technical management of major bus subcontracted program elements
  • Support contractual space segment technical reviews
  • Responsible for writing monthly status and technical performance reviews and reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 5 years of applicable experience, or Master's degree with 3 years of applicable experience for Principal Systems Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related technical field and 8+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 6+ years of experience; or a PhD and 4+ years of experience for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer
  • Proficiency in related engineering programs, Microsoft Office or equivalent document generation programs, Microsoft SharePoint or equivalent collaboration tool, Matlab or equivalent computational tool
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, and logical interfaces

  • Experience interfacing with team members in Command and Data Handling design and development
  • Electrical design at a card, component or system level
  • FPGA / Processor design and development
  • Software design and development
  • Power distribution system design and development
  • High and Low Voltage Bus Design
  • Mechanical design and development
  • Understanding of launch loads and space docking loads
  • Thermal control system design and development
  • Thermal control techniques in vacuum and/or ambient conditions
  • Automotive and motor or mechanism design and development
  • Radiocommunication design and development
  • Proficient in the use of the requirement development and management tool DOORS
  • Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents
  • Experience in avionics system testing and evaluation
  • Knowledge in Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments, or Human Factors
