About the position

The Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will lead the development of new technologies within the Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA) team at Northrop Grumman. This role focuses on ensuring system technical compliance, managing technical integration, and collaborating across various programs to support emerging supercomputing technologies. The engineer will also be responsible for improving manufacturing efficiency and product quality, mentoring junior engineers, and staying current with industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements.
  • Manage the vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program life cycle.
  • Collect, manage, and report the program metrics and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
  • Manage risk and opportunity and the production of core engineering work products and track the work products and associated program dependencies in the program schedule.
  • Coordinate between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.
  • Lead the development and implementation of manufacturing systems and processes for new and existing products.
  • Perform systems analysis to identify areas for improvement in manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for manufacturing processes, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in systems engineering principles and best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in manufacturing and systems engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience for Principal level.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience for Sr. Principal level.
  • Proven track record of successful development of technologies to maturity of the Systems Engineering Life cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle with a focus on SRR to CDR.
  • Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) experience.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
  • Demonstrated Requirements Management from Elicitation to Verification.
  • Current active DoD TS/SCI with poly security per business requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing from generation of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for the development of complex systems of systems.
  • Risk and Opportunity Management experience.
  • Master's degree or PhD in STEM or technical management.
  • Understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements (UAF).
  • Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Electrical) and strong ability to communicate cross functionally.
