If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, we have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Principal Engineer in our New Component and BWR Engineering team based in Chattanooga, TN. This position will be 20-24 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing PWR replacement steam generator projects, either in design or structural analysis.
  • Support future large component replacement projects, as well as AP1000 primary/NSSS components (steam generators, pressurizers, etc).
  • Expertise in component design or component structural analysis, as well as a strong understanding of ASME Code Section III Sub-Section NB, and how to apply this knowledge in structural or design work.
  • Verify technical documents for both existing and new plants and components.
  • Coach, mentor, and teach early career professionals to develop technical knowledge and skills in the engineering group.
  • Support the component manufacturer in addressing non-conformances and other fabrication follow activities.
  • Work closely with engineers across the company to support other technical work in the nuclear industry, either for PWRs or BWRs.
  • Lead complex technical projects, coordinating multi-functional teams to accomplish project objectives while meeting established schedule and budget requirements.
  • Identify and define technical issues, risks and challenges, and direct efforts to successful resolution.
  • Bring engineering rigor to resolution of problems that are sometimes loosely, or only partially, defined, requiring knowledge and experience within a given discipline.
  • Incorporate the use of industry, regulatory, or NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to nuclear reactors in design and analysis activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction, and collaborate with other personnel including partners such as national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
  • Adaptable and flexible to changes in strategy, market, design, or manufacturing.
  • Strong ownership mentality to hold yourself accountable for delivery of high-quality engineering or physical material products.

Requirements

  • Expertise in component design or component structural analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ASME Code Section III Sub-Section NB.
  • Experience in verifying technical documents for nuclear plants and components.
  • Ability to coach and mentor early career professionals.
  • Experience in addressing non-conformances in component manufacturing.
