About the position

The Principal, Supply Chain Operations at The Sterling Group is responsible for supporting portfolio companies in the identification and execution of major Strategic Sourcing projects. This role involves collaborating with deal teams, portfolio company executives, and third-party consultants to drive supply chain projects such as transportation, logistics, inventory management, and warehouse management. The Principal will lead value creation initiatives, support new deal diligence, and manage portfolio-wide programs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support post-close value creation planning processes across portfolio companies for strategic sourcing projects.
  • Assist in evaluating and assessing strategic sourcing initiatives and supply chain management projects.
  • Support PMO execution within the Operation lever for procurement and SCM projects.
  • Support new deal diligence focusing on procurement and supply chain for 1-2 deals simultaneously.
  • Translate operations improvement thesis into post-close value-creation planning.
  • Lead the Sterling Leveraged Procurement Program and onboarding of new portfolio companies.
  • Develop and lead portfolio-wide SCM counsel of experts.
  • Identify and select consultants for projects.
  • Drive purchasing functions and strategic sourcing at portfolio companies.
  • Ensure effective demand planning and inventory control systems are developed and monitored.
  • Perform annual analysis to evaluate overall cost savings after implementing new strategies.
  • Monitor commodity market trends to identify new opportunities and risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor-level degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or relevant field.
  • 3-8 years experience in Procurement or Strategic sourcing management in an industrial, distribution, or manufacturing company.
  • 3-8 years of consulting experience leading procurement projects in the industrial market.
  • Experience working with industrial firms such as manufacturing, distribution, and industrial services.
  • Ability to manage 2-3 simultaneous value creation engagements.
  • Competency in executing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead and influence procurement professionals across portfolio companies.
