About the position

The Principal System Administrator - Linux is a senior-level position responsible for the design, installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of classified and unclassified systems and networks for the MDDC Program. This role requires extensive experience in Linux system administration and the ability to ensure IT systems are fully functional for operational activities. The administrator will work closely with various teams to implement requirements, provide technical guidance, and maintain compliance with security provisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, administer, and maintain classified and unclassified MDDC Program systems and networks.
  • Ensure IT systems are fully functional for all operational and support activities.
  • Provide essential Linux system administration support for hardware in support of the MDDC Program.
  • Work with existing Linux installations and build new systems as needed.
  • Collaborate with vendors to support current Linux-based software installations and maintain compliance.
  • Work closely with Program Management, Information Assurance, software development, analysis groups, and end-users to implement requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support with technical expertise in relation to MDDC Program IT processes and operations.
  • Anticipate IT-related issues and implement proactive preventive measures.
  • Develop, sustain, and update documentation for IT processes and procedures.
  • Perform regular and on-demand system backups and recoveries.
  • Maintain IT databases and perform light programming tasks related to system administration needs.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new IT systems technologies to support MDDC Program requirements.
  • Lead, train, and support junior staff engaged in system administration functions.
  • Assist with Government Furnished Equipment/Government Furnished Property (GFE/GFP) maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain inventory and organization of software and hardware resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other technical discipline.
  • Fifteen (15) years+ of experience; an additional four (4) years of experience may substitute for the degree.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification required.
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of datacenter technologies including Linux Administration, LAN and WAN, and network protocols such as TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, SMB.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and operate in a dynamic enterprise environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in RHEL and CentOS.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and solid data entry skills.
  • Ability to provide examples of being proactive and taking initiative in daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the customer base and provide excellent customer responsiveness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of MDA Test Activities preferred.
