The Principal System Administrator at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory plays a crucial role within the Naval Training and Simulation (NTS) organization, which is dedicated to designing, building, and operating nuclear training programs for the U.S. Navy. This position is integral to ensuring the effectiveness of the computer networks utilized for the training programs at the Kesselring Site, which includes managing a multi-site network. The responsibilities encompass the design of the network, selection of components, development of custom software tools, administration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software applications, and the installation and configuration of both hardware and software components. The Principal System Administrator will also be responsible for establishing cyber security controls and routinely monitoring the software and network to ensure that the systems function as intended. In this role, the individual will leverage their extensive experience and technical knowledge to support the NTS organization in delivering high-quality training programs to the U.S. Navy. The position requires a strong foundation in system administration, network management, and software development methodologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other team members to enhance the training infrastructure and ensure compliance with security protocols. This role is not only about maintaining existing systems but also about innovating and improving the technological landscape to meet the evolving needs of the Navy's training programs. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 7 years of experience. The position also requires a Department of Energy Q level security clearance, which the candidate must be able to obtain if not already held.
