About the position

The Principal Systems Engineer role at Collins Aerospace is a pivotal position within the Air Traffic Solutions (ATS) team, focusing on the development and modernization of the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS). Responsibilities

  • Work on the STARS air traffic control system, the backbone of air traffic management in the U.S.
  • Join a systems engineering team dedicated to modernizing the STARS system under a new contract.
  • Develop creative solutions to customer challenges and craft system and product-level requirements.
  • Verify requirements by developing rigorous sell-off criteria to ensure performance and safety standards.
  • Impact the modernization of air traffic control across the country.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, with expertise in requirements decomposition, flow-down, and verification.
  • Prior experience with IBM DOORS, Atlassian Jira, Confluence, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience generating technical documentation and facilitating briefings with stakeholders.
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required; must be willing to obtain FAA clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Programming skills in C++ and/or Java/J2EE, scripting languages like Python, or modeling tools such as MATLAB.
  • Experience supporting a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) government contract.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development Processes.
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux 9.x and integration and test best practices.
