The Structural Heart and Aortic Integrated Operating Unit offers minimally-invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves—aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid—and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body’s largest artery, the aorta. We are looking for a talented Principal Systems Engineer to join our systems engineering team at Medtronic Structural Heart & Aortic. You will have responsibility supporting our products throughout the entire development life cycle which means you’ll participate in all aspects of product development from concept exploration, system definition & design, testing, issue investigation & resolution, and continuous improvement. You will play a crucial role in driving projects through the product development process using your solid engineering understanding, energetic team attitude, results driven spirit, and focused attention on exceling when presented with challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support requirements capture, maintenance and management at varying levels of details.
  • Serve as the team’s information conduit between the stakeholders, development teams and V&V groups.
  • Work across engineering teams to define and manage requirements at the system, product, subsystem and interface level.
  • Apply technical engineering to design products and systems.
  • Perform technical analysis using methods such as functional analysis, timeline analysis and trade studies.
  • Support the development of product concepts, user needs and use cases and product requirements.
  • Ensure requirements quality and decompositions flow down.
  • Conduct technical design and reviews.
  • Lead, plan, schedule, conduct & monitor testing activities including verification test design, development, execution and documentation.
  • Support testing and problem reporting and determine steps to reproduce, root cause and solutions options.
  • Participate in early concept exploration and feasibility evaluations.
  • Coordinate the technical cross functional groups in reducing technical risk and completing product development milestones.
  • Contribute to the completion of project/program deliverables for our product development activities supporting the IIM product portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline.
  • 7 years of professional technical engineering experience within the medical device industry or an advanced degree with minimum 5 years of professional technical engineering experience within the medical device industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree (MS or Higher) in Engineering or Scientific discipline.
  • Experience generating technical documentation (examples include requirements documents, design specifications, engineering reports, test plans & procedures, validation plans, or validation reports).
  • Experience in product development.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Requirements Management Software like DOORS, PTC RV&S, Polarion or JAMA.
  • Experience in requirements development, analysis, allocation, review, and tracing.
  • Experience in functional analysis, interface definition.
  • Experience with RF communications systems.
  • Experience with Web-based systems.
  • A proven multitasker with demonstrated ability of working on multiple projects in a deadline driven and fast paced environment.
  • Experience developing a product in a regulated industry such as medical device, defense, or automotive.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Provide leadership and execution as needed for maintenance of requirements management systems, tools, and processes.
