About the position

The Principal Technical Editor and Writer at Northrop Grumman is responsible for creating, rewriting, and editing a variety of technical documents, ensuring clarity and adherence to military specifications. This role requires collaboration with product developers and a strong understanding of technical writing standards, particularly in the aviation and aerospace sectors. The position is based in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and involves on-site support with a travel requirement of 25%.

Responsibilities

• Writes, rewrites, and edits technical documents such as manuals and specifications using XML and adhering to S1000D and MIL-STD-40051 standards.
• Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers and observing production methods.
• Oversees the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting appropriate drawings and diagrams.
• Conducts quality reviews of technical materials.

Requirements

• 6 years of experience in writing/editing technical documents with a Bachelor's Degree, or 10 years of experience with a HS Diploma.
• Experience in the Aviation or Aerospace industry.
• Knowledge of DoD industry practices (TO 00-5-1, Mil-STD-38784, MIL-STD-3048, Mil-STD-1808).
• Ability to independently perform complex professional tasks.
• Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience writing in XML/S1000D specifications and using related software (Arbortext, EAGLE, XMetal).
• Ability to travel 25% of the time, both CONUS and OCONUS.

• Experience with TeamCenter and Sharepoint web portals.
• Familiarity with the USAF Global Hawk Flight Manual change process.
• History of collaboration in small teams across different organizations.
