About the position

The Principal Technical GIS Analyst at Tacoma Public Utilities is a lead role responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of GIS service delivery and infrastructure administration. This position involves application analysis, development, and the management of geospatial data design and GIS web development. The analyst will work closely with the GeoSpatial Technologies Manager to guide GIS technology development and lead a team of IT analysts in executing various GIS technology projects. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of utility business processes to effectively translate these into successful GIS applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an assigned workgroup, assigning, instructing, and checking the work of team members.
  • Function as the subject matter expert and technical lead in systems analysis, design, development, and maintenance of information systems.
  • Administer, design, and implement solutions leveraging TPU's web GIS platforms, including ArcGIS Enterprise deployments and geodatabase administration.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and system difficulties, proposing solutions and ensuring resolution.
  • Develop and implement procedures for geospatial data design, processing, quality control, and automation.
  • Manage databases in TPU Web GIS environments and ensure data availability via ESRI web services.
  • Maintain spatial and tabular data storage best practices for Web GIS architecture development.
  • Develop and maintain data and metadata quality standards using industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate and replace legacy data and application integration methods with reusable solutions.
  • Provide excellent customer service and build organizational confidence in the GIS team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or geography.
  • Six or more years of work experience directly related to information technology, with a preference for GIS experience.
  • Master's degree in Geography, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of computer technology principles and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of specialized technologies, applications, tools, systems, and databases.
