About the position

The Principal Technical Professional - Electrical at KBR Technical Services, Inc. in Houston, TX, is a pivotal role responsible for the study, design, specification, and services related to various electrical systems. This includes power systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers design and development, communications systems, cathodic protection, grounding, lightning protection, and heat tracing. The professional will produce calculations and prepare electrical specifications for low and medium voltage transformers, motor control equipment, switchgear, and other miscellaneous electrical equipment. In this role, the individual will develop equipment arrangement plans, distribution schemes, single lines, cable routings, cable schedules, and motor elementaries. They will specify controllers, instruments, valves, cables, wiring, transformers, distribution equipment, switchgears, lighting, and motors. The Principal Technical Professional will oversee updates to client SKM models and update relay setting files, as well as specify and quote electrical equipment, design complex electrical systems, and update/issue drawings in various formats for contractors to install. Additionally, the professional will check and seal Electrical IFC (Issued for Construction) Packages for projects in North Carolina, which incorporate the design and modeling of electrical systems. Providing technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers is also a key responsibility. The role requires planning, budgeting, organizing, coordinating, and controlling projects, reviewing project scopes, and generating work hour estimates. The Principal Technical Professional will lead Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Design Projects, ensuring that all aspects of electrical engineering are executed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Study, design, and specify electrical systems including power systems performance and control.
  • Produce calculations and prepare electrical specifications for transformers, motor control equipment, and switchgear.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 7 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate related work experience, or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 5 years of related work experience.
  • 5 years of experience in AutoCAD and Microstation drafting, Power System Protection, Relay specification/programming/circuit design, and designing control systems.
  • 5 years of experience leading Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Design Electrical Projects.
  • 3 years of experience in SKM Modeling and relay setting, and Arc Flash Calculation/Mitigation.
  • 3 years of experience in checking and sealing Electrical IFC Packages.
  • Professional Engineers (PE) License registered in the state of North Carolina or the ability to be registered upon hire.
