About the position

The Principal Technical Writer at nCino plays a crucial role in shaping the strategy and vision for delivering a best-in-class user experience through effective technical communication. This expert-level position involves guiding documentation teams, leading initiatives, and ensuring that technical communication aligns with product and user needs. The role requires a deep understanding of nCino products and the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation that meets the needs of both technical and non-technical users.

Responsibilities

  • Guide high-performing documentation teams and lead initiatives.
  • Ensure technical communication aligns with product and user needs.
  • Conduct high-level planning, organizing, writing, and editing of operational and testing procedure manuals.
  • Generate and draft release procedures for current nCino products.
  • Research advanced technical design specifications and translate technical information into user-friendly manuals.
  • Identify new documentation technologies and methodologies.
  • Apply product technical writing strategies and concepts using specialized knowledge.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to less-experienced team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Professional Writing, English, or a related field with 8+ years of related experience or a combination of experience and education.
  • Professional portfolio showcasing complex technical writing projects.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and content delivery platforms (CDP).
  • Proficient at building, managing, and mentoring documentation teams.
  • Effective at leading and executing documentation strategy and planning.
  • Proficient at determining documentation needs, setting priorities, and allocating resources.
  • Advanced understanding of API documentation, developer portals, or developer relations.
  • Ability to advise management on documentation best practices.
  • Advanced understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Advanced understanding of information architecture, content strategy, and user research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Technical Communication, Writing, or related field with 6+ years of technical writing experience.
  • Understanding of UI/UX design principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Salesforce.
  • Well-versed in the SDLC, Agile methodologies, and advanced scrum team experience.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
