About the position

The Principal Test Development Engineer at Raytheon is responsible for designing and deploying complex factory test systems for various defense technologies, including RADAR, SONAR, and missile systems. This role involves leading the development of test hardware, software, and firmware, ensuring that test solutions meet project requirements and are effectively integrated into manufacturing processes. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, manage project risks, and support manufacturing operations, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing national security through advanced engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external partners on the design and deployment of complex factory test systems.
  • Lead development of test hardware, software, and/or firmware through its development cycle, from requirements definition through deployment at manufacturing or customer facilities.
  • Work with Hardware Design and Operations teams early in the development cycle to identify capability and capacity needs for manufacturing test and ensure smooth deployment to manufacturing facilities.
  • Actively identify test readiness issues and optimizations through the development lifecycle.
  • Lead medium-to-large sized teams to meet project budget, schedule, and performance commitments.
  • Provide technical leadership to employees in support of their specific work assignments.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and encourage technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
  • Prepare and clearly present your team's work product to Functional and Program Leadership.
  • Understand and report financial & earned value status for monthly reporting cycle.
  • Proactively manage and mitigate Risks and Opportunities.
  • Support Manufacturing operations, including on-site troubleshooting and debugging, both independently and in collaboration with design engineering teams.
  • Contribute to cost, schedule, and technical solutions for bid and proposal development.

Requirements

  • Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in an engineering design and development environment with 4+ years direct experience with Test Equipment design and development tasks.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued (Secret) security clearance is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with National Instruments' TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, and/or LabVIEW
  • Digital, and/or Analog, and/or RF, and/or power supply test hardware design experience
  • Use of Commercial Test and Measurement Equipment
  • VXI/VME/MXI/PXI/CompactPCI Application Development
  • CMMI and 6 Sigma Experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with VHDL a plus
  • Software applications / programming skills a plus.
