About the position

As a Principal UX Designer on the MMO team, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and enhancing the player experience across various aspects of the game. Your role will involve collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to create engaging in-game and out-of-game experiences that delight players. You will lead UX design efforts, focusing on interaction design and player flows, while also being hands-on in implementing and iterating on your designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX design across multiple workstreams, focusing on the interaction design and player flows for these areas.
  • Deliver appropriate UX design artifacts (wireframes, user flows, etc.) and prototype UI.
  • Implement and iterate in engine to translate our intentions to reality.
  • Support high level design in developing systems such as control schemes, HUDs, and menu UI/UX flow.
  • Break down experiences thoughtfully for teams to ship value incrementally (i.e., Minimum viable experience), making appropriate trade-offs between fidelity and functionality.
  • Establish experiential quality metrics and interaction consistency across player-facing systems.
  • Partner closely with creative to create a visual design that elevates the thematic and immersive experience of Runeterra.

Requirements

  • 7+ years industry experience, having led significant portions of the UX for at least one shipped game title or major release of a live service game.
  • Experience working in game engines implementing features from scratch.
  • Experience creating prototypes of varying degrees of fidelity.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch or other industry design and prototyping tools.
  • Deep level of understanding, passion, and engagement with online multiplayer games.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience building UX for MMO games.
  • Experience with Game Engine tools like C++, Unreal, OpenGL, etc.
  • Depth of programming abilities (e.g., Gameplay and UI vs. Game Logic) vs. prototyping.
  • Experience with adjacent game design areas like combat, meta systems, or social systems.
  • Familiarity with the LoL IP.
