About the position

The Principal UX Designer role at McKesson is a pivotal position that focuses on enhancing the user experience within HR systems and processes. The Principal UX Designer will work closely with the Employee Experience (EX) team to develop and maintain user personas, user stories, and journey maps that reflect the needs and experiences of HR employees. This position is not just about design; it is about making a significant impact on the overall employee experience by ensuring that HR systems are user-friendly and aligned with the company's values and goals. In this role, the Principal UX Designer will lead usability testing initiatives across all HR systems, ensuring that the design and functionality meet the needs of users. They will be responsible for creating functional prototypes of system enhancements using industry-standard tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite. Additionally, the designer will develop an HR brand that aligns with the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and will maintain a comprehensive library of tools that are accessible to HR employees. This includes leading efforts to simplify site architecture and content strategy, making it easier for users to navigate and utilize HR resources effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in UX research and design, particularly within an HR or enterprise software context. They will be expected to stay current with design trends and user-centered design principles, applying this knowledge to create effective and engaging user experiences. The role also involves collaboration with various stakeholders to communicate complex concepts and insights, ensuring that the design solutions are well-informed and impactful.

Responsibilities

  • Lead usability testing across all systems aligned to HR priorities and Employee Experience (EX) product needs.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise personas for HR development and process design.
  • Create functional prototypes of system enhancements using tools like Figma and Adobe.
  • Develop an HR brand aligned to EVP for all system enhancements and development.
  • Maintain a library/hierarchy of tools accessible by HR employees and lead simplification of site architecture and content strategy.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 10+ years of experience in UX research and design, preferably in an HR or enterprise software environment.
  • Proven experience in conducting usability testing and gathering actionable insights to improve user experience.
  • Strong knowledge of user experience design principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining enterprise personas for HR development and process design.
  • Proficiency in relevant design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
  • Experience in developing and aligning an HR brand with the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) for system enhancements and development.
  • Familiarity with maintaining a library of tools accessible to HR employees and leading the simplification of site architecture and content strategy.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and the ability to apply them to HR systems.
  • Knowledge of design trends, customer and user markets, and marketing and brand insights to inform user profiles and design standards.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g., WCAG) is desirable.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing previous UX research and design work is preferred.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
