About the position

As the Principal UX Researcher at LogicMonitor, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the user experience of our products by planning and conducting comprehensive research that informs product decisions. This position is integral to shaping the research program itself, creating effective processes, educating colleagues on research best practices, and helping to plan the research roadmap. You will report directly to the Director of Design and will be responsible for driving the design and execution of both generative and evaluative studies for new and existing features. Daily collaboration with Development, Product Management, and Technical Writing teams will be essential to ensure the successful delivery of new features and usability improvements. Your responsibilities will include managing and driving the research program at LogicMonitor, effectively communicating insights across the organization using both qualitative and quantitative methods. You will work closely with Product Management and other stakeholders to plan and execute research aimed at understanding customer needs, goals, pains, and opportunities. This involves collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing customer feedback from various channels, including online communities and interviews, as well as analyzing customer behavior tracked in our analytics tools. In addition, you will oversee and coordinate a continuous research program that includes weekly RITE user testing sessions, scheduling calls with designers, customers, and Product Managers, and maintaining a robust base of users/participants. You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the repository of research insights, ensuring that the program meets designer and team goals to identify and resolve usability issues, convert insights into actionable design improvements, and identify new strategic design and product opportunities. Conducting competitive analysis for key features and staying updated on industry trends and innovations will also be part of your role. Mentoring colleagues and helping the team adopt standard processes and best practices for research will be crucial, as will partnering with research leads in other departments to align work and share expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and drive the research program at LogicMonitor, communicating insights across the organization using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Plan and execute research with Product Management and other stakeholders to understand customer needs, goals, pains, and opportunities.
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize customer feedback from multiple channels including online communities and interviews.
  • Analyze and report on customer behavior tracked in analytics tools.
  • Oversee and coordinate the continuous research program, including weekly RITE user testing sessions.
  • Schedule weekly calls with designers, customers, and Product Managers.
  • Maintain a base of users/participants and recruit new participants as needed.
  • Maintain and improve the repository of research insights.
  • Ensure the research program meets designer and team goals to identify and fix usability issues, convert insights into actionable design improvements, and identify new strategic design/product opportunities.
  • Conduct competitive analysis for key features and stay abreast of industry trends and innovations.
  • Mentor colleagues and help the team adopt standard processes and best practices for research.
  • Partner with research leads in other departments to align work, share expertise, and avoid duplication.
  • Propose and drive research initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MS Degree in HCI Design or social sciences preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in user research of SaaS applications.
  • Solid research portfolio with examples of tangible insights delivered for various audiences and aligned to business goals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interviewing, usability testing, generative & evaluative research methods.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and executing RITE user research.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and using research to help reconcile opposing viewpoints.
