About the position

The Principal Visual Designer for Design Systems at Cash App will lead the visual design and evolution of the design system, collaborating with various teams to create cohesive and engaging user experiences. This role involves hands-on design work, establishing design libraries, and ensuring the Cash App brand is effectively integrated into the product. The designer will be responsible for the entire design process from concept to execution, contributing to high-level strategic decisions and coaching others on visual language.

Responsibilities

  • Drive visual design evolution by leading the aesthetic and experience of the product.
  • Shape core aspects of the design system by establishing and evolving libraries.
  • Elevate brand expression through innovative visual design and asset libraries.
  • Build systematically by creating frameworks, documentation, and libraries for designers.
  • Ensure end-to-end accountability from concept through implementation for a well-crafted outcome.
  • Create the systems playbook and documentation ecosystem for design systems at Cash App.
  • Coach the creative direction and be a trusted advisor on visual language.
  • Contribute to defining product experience and design system across foundational surfaces.
  • Utilize full range of systems design, interaction design, and visual design skills.
  • Lead work driving fundamental concepts across mobile and web clients.
  • Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with product and executive teams.
  • Give and solicit feedback from other designers to raise quality standards.

Requirements

  • Experience building and evolving design systems.
  • Passion for turning complex problems into simple and engaging UI.
  • Outstanding systems thinking, visual design, and product thinking for mobile apps.
  • Experience applying research, usability tests, and metrics to inform design decisions.
  • Comfort with an iterative design process that includes accepting and acting on feedback.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and strategic experience.
  • Experience defining motion libraries for UI.
  • Experience building data visualization libraries consumed by product teams.
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines to lead or support new ideas or products to launch.
  • Experience conducting and guiding user research and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proven skills in presenting work, workshopping concepts, and evangelizing new ideas.
  • Experience with front-end engineering constraints and partnering with Front-end Engineering (iOS/Android).
  • Experience designing for inclusivity and diverse audiences.
