About the position

The Principal Analytical Chemical Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the Lunar Transportation business unit, focusing on the development of sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar surface. This position involves applying engineering techniques to design, analyze, and test life support chemicals and analytical equipment, ensuring the safety and efficiency of Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLS) and Crew Systems (CS) flight hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Support and own the synthesis of life support chemicals in a wet lab.
  • Develop a new analytical test rig to characterize chemical performance.
  • Operate analytical equipment such as ion chromatography, ICP, XRF, GC, and FTIR to verify lot quality for flight and characterize fundamental properties.
  • Lead and support testing of air revitalization and crew systems components in laboratory and integrated environments.
  • Perform chemical modeling, calculations, and trades.
  • Solve technical and program problems with the help of your team.
  • Determine and manage schedule and budget for owned hardware.
  • Work with suppliers and sub-contracts for components.
  • Show system and component compliance to Blue and NASA technical requirements.
  • Be the technical point of contact for your hardware.
  • Adhere to Blue Leadership Principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in analytical chemistry or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with life support systems and environmental control systems.
  • Proficiency in operating analytical equipment such as ICP, XRF, GC, and FTIR.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with space systems or aerospace engineering.
  • Familiarity with NASA technical requirements and standards.
  • Experience in project management and budget management.
