About the position
The Principal Consulting Application Engineer at ABB plays a crucial role in providing technical expertise across various departments, including product management, engineering, sales, and customer support. This position involves conducting power system analyses, troubleshooting drive systems, and creating detailed technical reports to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction. The role is hybrid, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements, and contributes significantly to the Motion Drive Products Division.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise to ABB Motion Drive Products departments.
- Conduct power system analysis using commercially available software (e.g., ETAP, ANSYS, SKM, EasyPower).
- Model transformer configurations and address power quality issues.
- Troubleshoot AC and DC drive systems and associated products.
- Create detailed technical reports on product issues and conduct performance testing in the lab.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics with a minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial applications of AC and DC drives, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
- Familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEMA, IEC standards associated with LV and MV drives and systems.
- Involvement with IEEE IAS or other societies, including attending conferences and presenting findings.
- Ability to develop proof of concepts in the application lab.
- Strong presentation skills for technical information to management and customers.
