About the position

The Principal Engineer - Industrial Hygiene at Eli Lilly and Company is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by providing technical expertise and compliance assurance related to industrial hygiene. This role focuses on exposure control, hazard assessment, and promoting a safety culture within the Global Facilities Management and Engineering Services (GFMES) organization. The engineer will support health and safety programs for approximately 1000 employees and contract partners, collaborating with various business areas to implement effective operational compliance strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on service in industrial hygiene to meet customer needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers at all levels to identify and meet critical needs.
  • Assist in the recognition, evaluation, and control of personnel exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Apply industrial hygiene field equipment to identify, assess, and control exposure risk.
  • Plan, implement, and report on exposure assessments and protective equipment evaluations.
  • Summarize exposure assessment results and present them clearly to customers.
  • Maintain the industrial hygiene lab and ensure equipment calibration.
  • Aid in compliance assessments such as Site Self Assessments.
  • Educate supervision and employees on industrial hygiene principles.
  • Participate in local safety committees and teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of industrial hygiene training programs.
  • Provide consulting expertise to Integrated Facilities Management Contract Partners.
  • Participate in incident investigations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in an industrial hygiene-related role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Effective communication skills, including public speaking and report writing.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Ability to provide technical mentoring and coaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • Previous industrial hygiene experience in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Experience supporting a 24/7 manufacturing or facilities management organization.
  • Familiarity with Lilly Indianapolis sites.
