About the position

The Principal Hardware Engineer position at Westinghouse Electric Co is a pivotal role responsible for the design, integration, and documentation of Plant Control Computer Systems utilized in nuclear power plants. This position is integral to the Plant Computer System group, which delivers systems that include Dell Servers, CISCO network switches, Emerson Process Management Ovation controllers, and various other third-party commercial off-the-shelf products. The Principal Hardware Engineer will lead a team of engineers in the delivery of these systems, ensuring that all hardware-related activities align with project goals and timelines. In this role, the engineer will be tasked with creating hardware-related cost estimates, performing procurement activities, and participating in hardware scheduling to support the overall project schedule. The engineer will also be responsible for creating hardware drawings for manufacturing and installation, supporting manufacturing and assembly at the manufacturer's facility, and authoring or reviewing hardware test procedures and design documentation. This includes hardware design specifications, power and heat calculations, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analysis, I/O interface diagrams, and spare parts lists. The engineer will also support Factory Acceptance Testing and participate in the installation and startup activities of delivered systems at customer sites. The position requires multidisciplinary research and collaboration with both hardware and software engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Additionally, the role involves designing custom adapters, cabling, and interfaces to transition existing plant equipment to new state-of-the-art computer equipment. This is a mobile position that requires the engineer to work both remotely and onsite, engaging with local and international customers and vendor suppliers.
