About the position

The Principal Network Engineer at bp's Archaea Energy is a senior role responsible for the strategic direction, architecture, configuration, and support of the company's network and telephony infrastructure. This position requires a seasoned expert to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of network services across corporate and field environments. The role involves leading the network engineering team, driving innovative solutions, and aligning network strategies with Archaea's business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the top authority on network architecture, supervising the design, deployment, and management of all network systems.
  • Define and implement comprehensive network and telephony standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Continuously assess and elevate Archaea's network infrastructure, identifying enhancements for resiliency and security.
  • Lead and run high-impact network projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the network engineering team, mentoring engineers and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the network team and other technical and business units.
  • Take command of critical network incidents, resolving complex issues swiftly and efficiently.
  • Maintain and oversee comprehensive technical documentation and project reports.
  • Manage strategic relationships with network vendors and service providers, ensuring SLAs are met.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring and optimization of network performance, leading a team rotation for 24/7 on-call support.
  • Provide expert-level support for network deployments and maintenance at Archaea energy plant locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred or applicable work experience.
  • At least 8+ years of progressive experience in network engineering with extensive hands-on expertise in network infrastructures.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including experience guiding technical teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Mastery of wired and wireless networking, cybersecurity principles, VPN technologies, DNS, DHCP, and telephony systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale IT projects, including planning and resource allocation.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proven track record in high-pressure environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong commitment to providing superior service with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Highly adaptable to changing environments and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
