About the position

The Prism Co-Editor position at the University of Lynchburg is an exciting opportunity for students interested in the editorial process and creative writing. As a Co-Editor, you will play a crucial role in managing the production of the Prism, the university's literary magazine. This position requires a commitment of 2 to 5 hours per week, where you will work independently to facilitate reader meetings, organize submissions, and curate content for the magazine. You will be responsible for raising interest in staffing and submissions, selecting artwork for the cover, and communicating with the Faculty Advisor, Dr. Kelly Ann Jacobson, about the progress of the magazine. This role not only enhances your editorial skills but also provides a platform for showcasing your creative vision and leadership abilities. In this position, you will engage with fellow students and faculty to foster a vibrant literary community. You will be tasked with sending out acceptance and rejection letters to contributors, assembling the draft of the Prism, and editing proofs to ensure high-quality content. Additionally, you will organize the spring Prism reading, which is an essential event for promoting the magazine and celebrating the contributions of writers and artists within the university. This role is ideal for students who have a passion for literature and a desire to contribute to the university's creative landscape.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Co-editors should have taken at least one upper-division creative writing class
  • Must be available for an average of two hours every week
  • Must be available for longer amounts of time at key parts of the production schedule for quick editorial turnarounds
  • Previous experience reading for Prism is strongly preferred
