About the position

Kilpatrick's Technology, Privacy & Cybersecurity Team is seeking an associate with at least two years of privacy experience. The position will be based in Atlanta or Silicon Valley, focusing on counseling clients regarding critical data issues under US and EU privacy laws. The ideal candidate will possess a collaborative mindset and impeccable attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other associates to develop client-ready deliverables.
  • Engage with clients to understand their business objectives and provide actionable legal advice.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related contracts, agreements, and policies.
  • Stay abreast of changes in privacy laws and regulations, both domestically and internationally.
  • Assess the impact of legal developments on clients and provide guidance on maintaining compliance.
  • Conduct comprehensive privacy compliance/risk assessments for clients, identifying potential areas of vulnerability.
  • Develop and assist clients with the implementation of strategies to mitigate privacy risks and ensure data protection.
  • Develop and oversee data breach response plans, including advising clients on notification requirements and coordinating with relevant authorities.
  • Provide proactive and strategic legal advice to address privacy issues and promote best practices.
  • Act as a thought leader on emerging privacy trends (including AI) and contribute to legal publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other state privacy laws.
  • Strong analytical skills, good writing skills, and excellent client service.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong drafting skills, including experience drafting cloud/SaaS agreements, software licensing agreements, website policies, and other technology agreements.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced legal environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • IAPP certification is preferred (CIPP, CIPT, or CIPM).
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies (including AI) and their privacy implications.
  • Experience working with clients across a variety of industries and sectors, such as technology, healthcare, finance, etc.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $225,000 - $280,000.
