About the position

The Privacy Auditor is responsible for ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations within the healthcare environment. This role involves reviewing medical record requests, maintaining confidentiality, and providing excellent customer service while managing multiple projects. The auditor will also support department activities and provide training on privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly reviews the validity of all medical record/billing record requests to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.
• Facilitates the compilation of requested documentation and provides direction for completion to the entity.
• Ensures requests for medical records/bills are logged accurately into the Accounting of Disclosure log within 24 business hours.
• Independently makes routine decisions involving verification of appropriate authorizations and prioritizing requests.
• Supports department activities such as answering phones, responding to emails, and providing customer service.
• Provides ongoing training and education to ensure compliance with HIPAA release of information/privacy and security regulations.
• Maintains a working knowledge of Federal and State privacy and security laws, regulations, and policies applicable by LHC.
• Manages multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to detail.
• Assists and maintains flexibility with other privacy tasks assigned.

Requirements

• BA or AS degree with an emphasis in health information management or healthcare administration.
• Two or more years of previous experience in a home health, hospice, or hospital HIM environment.

Nice-to-haves

• RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred.
