About the position

The Privacy Officer is responsible for overseeing the Privacy Program at Virginia Hospital Center, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to the protection of private and confidential information. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining privacy policies and procedures, investigating privacy incidents, and conducting risk assessments to evaluate compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Privacy Program, including development and implementation of privacy policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and track privacy incidents and report inappropriate access or disclosure of protected health information according to HIPAA and other applicable laws.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct privacy risk assessments and compliance reviews.
  • Evaluate compliance with state and federal regulations and hospital privacy policies.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on privacy laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or a master's degree in a related field is required.
  • Five years of experience in healthcare compliance or a privacy role is required.
  • Five years of experience in compliance and privacy regulations is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience with electronic medical records software is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Fair Warning Audit Software is preferred.
  • Experience with Epic applications is preferred.
  • Relevant compliance professional certification from a national association is preferred.
