About the position

The Private Banking Cross Border Credit Lead at CIBC is responsible for establishing program guidelines for cross-border lending and banking, while cultivating and servicing bank relationships. This role focuses on active portfolio management, providing customized lending solutions, and collaborating with internal partners to enhance client relationships and drive profitable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Establish new cross-border private banking lending and deposit relationships.
  • Support banking and customized lending solution needs identified within CIBC Private Wealth Management.
  • Become a trusted advisor through regular client contact and relationship building.
  • Manage new and existing client relationships, exploring opportunities for additional credit and non-credit services.
  • Serve as the primary internal resource for clients regarding lending and deposit needs.
  • Partner with CIBC Private Wealth Management Relationship Managers to achieve approvals for new business and modifications to existing business.
  • Identify product/service opportunities for other business units and develop creative solutions to client needs.
  • Ensure consistency in deal structuring and risk mitigation through detailed analysis and underwriting of credit.
  • Interface with the Underwriting team and Credit Risk Management.
  • Drive deals through the underwriting and closing process.
  • Assess and mitigate potential risks associated with cross-border lending.
  • Ensure adherence to international regulations related to cross-border lending.
  • Collaborate with peers and mentor junior team members to ensure superior client service.
  • Complete banking portfolio responsibilities, including reviews, renewals, and collection of financial information.
  • Maintain risk rating accuracy and risk identification on assigned portfolio.
  • Stay informed of changes to policies and procedures impacting the portfolio.
  • Act as an ambassador for CIBC Private Wealth Management at local market and industry events.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience developing and managing lending and deposit relationships with cross-border high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or Economics preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience applying deep credit expertise and knowledge of investment portfolios and trust solutions.
  • Knowledge of Canadian tax laws and accounting structures.
  • Ability to foster and maintain private banking relationships with a high level of competency.
  • Experience working in a team environment, introducing appropriate partners and solutions to high net worth clients.
  • Ability to apply credit expertise and identify risk within a specific banking industry.
  • Ability to complete necessary analysis and documentation for credit actions related to the existing portfolio.
  • Formal credit training is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge in financial analysis and modeling.
