About The Position

The Community Music Center of Boston is seeking a part-time Private Cello Instructor to provide music education to students. This role focuses on delivering high-quality cello instruction while fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. The instructor will manage a private studio, prepare students for performances, and maintain communication with students and their families. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in cello performance/pedagogy or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years private teaching experience.
  • Adept at working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Interest in Culturally Responsive Teaching, Creative Youth Development, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
  • Availability for in-person teaching with a maximum of one pre-planned absence per semester.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen and learn from others.
  • Ability to adapt to individual needs of students and provide constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in a diverse range of styles.
  • Knowledge of early childhood cello pedagogies and general classroom management.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese).
  • Proficient to strong sight reading skills.
  • Experience teaching in a public school or community music school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and retain a private studio of cello students.
  • Teach students according to curricular guidelines.
  • Prepare students for and encourage participation in performance events and opportunities.
  • Organize at least one studio recital during the school year.
  • Complete attendance in registration software accurately.
  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents/caregivers and students via email to support educational progress.
  • Attend department meetings and the annual all-faculty meeting as scheduled.
  • Participate in department events, recitals, and concerts.
