About the position

The Private Swim Instructor at Greater Somerset County YMCA is responsible for providing swim lessons to members, ensuring a safe and supportive instructional environment. This role emphasizes building relationships with participants through effective customer service and engagement, while promoting water safety and swimming skills among students of various ages.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, instructional, and supportive environment for swim lessons.
• Teach students the principles of correct stroke, water safety, and swimming endurance.
• Conduct group classes for preschool and school-aged children.
• Develop appropriate introductions to a variety of water sports and activities.
• Engage all members and participants in a professional and courteous manner.
• Greet and bid farewell to all participants in the aquatics area, learning and using their names.
• Listen and be accessible to all members for questions and comments, following up as needed.
• Engage members on new classes and changes in programming.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of the water area and equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Redirect members using cell phones to the front lobby.
• Adhere to YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, educating members about the YMCA mission and goals.
• Comply with all Somerset Hills YMCA Policies and Procedures.
• Attend trainings, seminars, and meetings as required.
• Arrive to work five minutes before the shift starts.
• Wear appropriate and professional uniform/attire.

Requirements

• YSL and/or WSI certification (to be obtained upon hire).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification (to be obtained upon hire).
• Current Blood borne Pathogens certification (to be obtained upon hire).
• SH YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire.
• SH YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire.
