The PRN Medical Assistant for Occupational Health at The University of Kansas Health System plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the healthcare setting. The Medical Assistant will contribute to patient care by preparing patients for their visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consultations, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic and exam rooms, and managing supply and equipment inventory. Additionally, the role involves assisting physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members in delivering high-quality healthcare services. In this position, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for accurately scheduling tests, obtaining necessary films and reports, and preparing laboratory specimens according to established policies. They will assist physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations as outlined in their competency checklist. Collaboration with healthcare team members is essential for coordinating and implementing patient care plans, which may include recording elements of patient history for clinical staff review. The Medical Assistant will also handle electronic submissions, calls, and faxes for prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies, ensuring that all data collected for completed procedures is accurately recorded in medical records. Maintaining medical records is a critical aspect of this role, as the Medical Assistant must ensure that all required documentation is available and properly filed. They will also be responsible for the orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stocking supplies, and completing required logs for equipment checks. Clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, processing insurance forms, and answering phones will also be part of their responsibilities. The Medical Assistant will perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures, documenting all findings in the medical record.
