About the position

The PRN Physician Assistant position at Penn Medicine's Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH) involves providing high-quality, comprehensive care in a fast-paced Emergency Department (ED). The role requires the ability to work autonomously while coordinating care for patients across various acuity levels, including adult and some pediatric cases. The position emphasizes strong medical decision-making skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment, with opportunities for collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality, comprehensive care to patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Conduct focused history and physical exams for patients.
  • Order and interpret labs, EKG/telemetry, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Order medications and perform procedures as necessary.
  • Coordinate patient care plans, often consulting with other specialties.
  • Work 12-hour shifts with variable times, including weekends.

Requirements

  • National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistant (required for PAs)
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (required for NPs)
  • Basic Life Support/BLS certification (required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support/ACLS certification (required)
  • Pennsylvania state license (required)
  • DEA certification (required)
  • Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Training Program
  • Minimum of 2.5 years of prior Advanced Practice work experience preferred, with Emergency Medicine experience also preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support/PALS certification (not required, but encouraged)
  • Master of Arts or Science degree (preferred)
