About the position

The Research Clinician is a licensed physician's assistant who plays a crucial role in supporting clinical research across various studies and trials. This position involves conducting medical evaluations, providing clinical services, and ensuring compliance with study protocols. The clinician will work closely with Principal Investigators and other research staff to assess patient eligibility, document clinical findings, and manage patient care in accordance with established guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Sub-Investigator on clinical trials as needed.
  • Perform physical exams and study-related procedures per study protocols and document in appropriate source documentation.
  • Provide high-quality care, including medical status assessments, diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical procedures, and prescription and monitoring of medications according to study protocols.
  • Determine the relevance of health care issues related to the study and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Work with protocol Principal Investigator and other Sub-Investigators to determine patient eligibility for enrollment in clinical trials.
  • Review lab results, medical histories, and monitor adverse events, documenting in appropriate trial records.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical questions from study coordinators regarding participants.
  • Accurately document assessment, treatment, and other interventions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure ordering, safe storage, dispensing, and documentation according to Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and Regulations.
  • Educate and counsel research clients regarding referrals and treatment.
  • Respond to research clients' emergency medical calls.
  • Support the reporting of all Serious Adverse Events to NIH, DSMB, and various IRBs as needed.
  • Perform regulatory quality control activities, including study drug log audits and temperature log monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance of clinical and research staff with all laws, policies, protocols, and operating procedures.
  • Develop, conduct training, and supervise staff on clinical protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform clinical duties across research studies.

Requirements

  • Active license to practice medicine in Washington, DC.
  • DC DEA Certification required.
  • DC Controlled Substance License required.
  • Active CPR/BLS certification required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical or clinical research experience required.
  • Research or clinical experience focusing on the health of LGBTQ+ populations, including areas such as aging, cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental health, sexual health, and/or HIV treatment and prevention required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to research aimed at achieving health equity required.
  • Ability to manage and delegate work in a fast-paced clinical research environment required.
