About the position

The Supplemental Speech Pathologist at Memorial Hermann is responsible for evaluating and rehabilitating patients of all ages with communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders. This role focuses on facilitating the development and maintenance of human communication and swallowing abilities, while also mentoring and training assistants and interns. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and a commitment to providing high-quality care and exceptional experiences for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and rehabilitate patients with communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders.
  • Document findings and progress, providing instruction to patients and caregivers.
  • Assist in program development and provide recommendations to speech therapists and management.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians.
  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with physician referrals and develop written plans of care.
  • Implement speech/language pathology treatment programs and reassess patient status as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and professional colleagues.
  • Document appropriately in medical records and complete other documentation duties accurately.
  • Act as a clinical instructor for speech interns and provide clinical leadership.
  • Participate in community service and represent the profession at organized functions.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university-based Speech/Language pathology program with a Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Current license to practice speech/language pathology in Texas.
  • Current certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train staff or supervise clinical interns.
