About the position

The PRN Triage RN at KU MedWest is responsible for delivering nursing care in an ambulatory clinic setting. This role requires the application of clinical knowledge and independent nursing judgment to ensure quality patient care outcomes. The RN will assess patient needs, provide direct care, and facilitate communication with the healthcare team to address patient concerns effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within role/scope of practice.
  • Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
  • Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management as applicable.
  • Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated.
  • Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
  • Identifies teach/learning needs of patients.
  • Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and makes documentation in patient's charts.
  • Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.
  • Completes necessary forms (i.e. FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and obtains physicians' signatures as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 6 months of RN experience
  • 2 or more years RN experience to be an Ambulatory Clinic RN PRN
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing with current active multistate RN license in good standing or active single state RN license in good standing in the state of work.
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) certification (Non-Clinical) from American Heart Association (AHA) or obtained within 14 days.
