About the position

The PRN Registered Vascular Sonographer at Wellstar Paulding Imaging Center is responsible for performing a variety of vascular ultrasound exams, ensuring high-quality diagnostic studies while providing safe and age-appropriate care to patients. The role requires flexibility in work hours and the ability to work independently while collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The sonographer must demonstrate technical proficiency, maintain equipment, and adhere to safety protocols, all while ensuring excellent patient communication and care.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique for optimal image quality and minimal radiation exposure.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Verifies clinician orders for procedures and obtains complete clinical histories.
  • Follows procedures for administering contrast media safely.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and uses appropriate markers during exams.
  • Reviews ultrasound images for clinical acceptability and releases patients accordingly.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment.
  • Assists other technologists in various modalities as needed.
  • Observes patient conditions and evaluates the need for physician intervention.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and demonstrates sterile technique.
  • Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Ensures documentation is concise and legible, using precise terminology.
  • Completes mandatory education without prompting.
  • Produces acceptable images with a 95% first-time acceptance rate.
  • Checks equipment for proper calibration and operational deficiencies before use.
  • Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion and manages teleradiography processes.
  • Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean department.
  • Transports and positions patients for procedures.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
  • Maintains Joint Commission standards and takes call when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited program required.
  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program preferred.
  • Registered Medical Sonographer or ARRT Vascular Sonography certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association required.
  • Minimum 1 year clinical experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with physicians, patients, and staff.
  • Ability to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in OB and Abdomen sonography is a plus.
