About the position
The ProBAR Law Student Fellow position is a full-time role focused on providing legal support and representation to unaccompanied children in federal custody, particularly those from Central America. The fellow will engage in direct legal work, conduct research, and assist attorneys in immigration cases, contributing to the mission of ensuring access to justice for vulnerable populations. This fellowship is grant-funded and typically lasts for two months, offering a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in immigration law and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Support attorneys in cases involving direct representation of unaccompanied children.
- Conduct legal research and writing on immigration policy and law.
- Analyze laws, regulations, and court rules, synthesizing findings into reports or memoranda.
- Meet with clients and observe Immigration Court proceedings.
- Appear as a law student before the Harlingen Immigration Court.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Possession of, or actively pursuing, a Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Proficiency in Spanish is required.
- Ability to travel to care provider facilities funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
- Background checks will be required for this position.
