About The Position

Fried Frank is seeking an experienced public interest attorney to serve as the Pro Bono Attorney, resident in the Washington D.C. office. Fried Frank has a long history of public service. Our attorneys work on a variety of pro bono matters that include family law, domestic violence, housing and homelessness prevention, disability rights, veterans benefits, immigration, reproductive rights, nonprofit law, and indigent criminal defense. Strong program coordination and communication skills are essential for this position. Projected starting date is March 2025. Expected salary range is $150,000-$200,000, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law.
  • At least five years of legal experience, preferably at a large private law firm or in-house corporate legal department.
  • Deep familiarity with legal services organizations in the DMV area.
  • DC Bar Admission, or qualified for immediate waiver into the DC Bar.
  • Maryland bar admission is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically for conferences and for occasional visits to the New York office.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Report to and work collaboratively with the New York-based Pro Bono Counsel.
  • Liaise with legal services providers in the DMV area to maintain existing partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration.
  • Work with the Firm's DC-based attorneys to identify opportunities that match attorney interests.
  • Promote skill building and professional development.
  • Serve as backup for the Pro Bono Counsel when needed.
  • Ensure that training opportunities, model documents, and other resources are kept up to date and accessible.
  • Provide high level review of staffing of pro bono cases in the Washington DC office.
  • Update internal database and contribute to statistical analysis and regular program reporting.
  • Oversee the case opening and closing processes for Washington DC projects.
  • Serve as lead or supervising attorney in appropriate cases.
  • Pitch new projects to attorneys in the D.C. office.
  • Assist with orientation for new attorneys and summer associates.
  • Assist with the firm's internal communications, including a quarterly newsletter and annual report.
  • Assist with content development for the firm website and social media channels.
  • Represent the firm's pro bono practice in Washington DC area initiatives and professional organizations.
  • Compile data and narratives for award submissions and other reports.
  • Represent the pro bono practice at area volunteer recognition events, fundraisers, and recruiting events.
