About the position

The Ventura County Probation Agency is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee and direct the fiscal operations of the agency. This role involves planning, organizing, and managing financial activities, developing fiscal policies, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The Accounting Manager will also supervise accounting staff and provide complex administrative support to higher management, aiming to maximize the agency's financial resources and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the fiscal operations and activities for the Probation Agency.
  • Develop and implement financial objectives, policies, and procedures to maximize revenue and compliance.
  • Provide technical and policy advice to executive management on financial issues.
  • Select, train, and supervise accounting staff, establishing performance standards and conducting evaluations.
  • Manage the preparation and control of the Agency budget, ensuring conformance with revenue expectations.
  • Maximize the long-term drawdown of federal, state, and private grant funding.
  • Oversee the development of fiscal strategic planning initiatives to address current and future financial needs.
  • Serve as the fiscal subject matter expert and resolve complex financial issues.
  • Coordinate the production of comprehensive financial reports for executives and the County Executive Office.
  • Represent the Agency in financial matters at local, state, and federal levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience, with four years at a supervisory or management level.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel.
  • Valid California driver license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant License
  • Experience with governmental accounting
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies.
