About the position

The Probation Aide Data Entry Clerk position is a part-time role that involves supporting the operations of the Juvenile Probation Department. The position requires performing various data entry tasks, assisting probation supervisors, and maintaining accurate records. The role is crucial in ensuring that probation matters are handled efficiently and in compliance with the standards set by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties and coordinate with supervisor the operations, activities and supervision of probation matters.
  • Maintain conduct consistent with standards expected of Cameron County employees.
  • Comply with all TJJD standards and Code of Ethics requirements.
  • Assist Probation Supervisors and/or Juvenile Probation Officers with document preparation and e-filing.
  • Prepare source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information.
  • Compile, sort and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered and/or e-filed.
  • Track and document all data into JCMS and spreadsheets.
  • Keep statistics as assigned.
  • Review work done by others to check for correct spelling and grammar.
  • Create visual aids and PowerPoint presentations for training purposes.
  • Interact professionally with juveniles and their families.
  • Maintain logs of activities and completed work.
  • Organize and file paperwork, documents, and computer-based information.
  • Photocopy and print various documents.
  • Be available for emergencies including inclement weather and transporting probation children.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience preferred in direct juvenile care, counseling, law enforcement, corrections or related field.
  • Experience as a data entry clerk.
  • Keyboard skills and excellent knowledge of word processing tools and spreadsheets (MS Office Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware.
  • Basic understanding of databases.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Current Texas Driver's License and automobile insurance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English; knowledge of Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to pass a drug urinalysis pre-screening exam and a criminal background check.
