About the position

The Probation and Parole Officer position with the State of Oklahoma involves performing professional social service and law enforcement duties aimed at assessing and managing offenders in the community. The role focuses on increasing public safety by reducing future criminal behavior through effective supervision, treatment referrals, and ongoing monitoring of probationers, parolees, and inmates in re-entry programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of adult felons using motivational interviewing skills to assess criminogenic risk/need.
  • Refer offenders to appropriate treatment and programs targeting their primary criminogenic needs.
  • Monitor offender activities to ensure adherence to transition plans and conditions set by the releasing authority.
  • Assist offenders in obtaining and maintaining employment and building a supportive community network.
  • Conduct various investigations including pre-sentence, interstate, pre-pardon, and pre-parole assessments.
  • Prepare reports on offender activities and provide recommendations to the releasing authority.
  • Maintain documentation related to the management of offender caseloads, both physical and electronic.
  • Monitor and document payment of financial obligations ordered by the releasing authority.
  • Assist in security operations during disturbances and transport offenders when necessary.
  • Conduct periodic screenings for drug and alcohol use by offenders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, education, criminal justice administration, penology, or police science.
  • 1 year of correctional experience in social casework involving classification, assessment, or field supervision of probationers and parolees (for Level II).
  • 2 years of correctional experience for Level II or 4 years for Level III, with a master's degree substituting for one year of required experience.

  • Master's degree in relevant fields.
  • Experience in evidence-based practices in offender supervision.
  • Knowledge of community resources and transitional services.
