About The Position

The Probation Officer position contributes to the agency's public safety mission by supervising and monitoring probationers from Courts and the Parole Board in accordance with DOC standards. The role aims to enhance public safety through supervision, follow-up, and the use of community resources, including commitment or re-commitment if necessary. The officer provides day-to-day supervision to probationers requiring both intensive and regular probation/parole/post-release supervision. They assess the criminogenic and treatment needs of the probationer and actively apply evidence-based practices to promote internal change within the probationer. Collaboration with probationers, district, and community resources is essential to develop and manage individualized treatment plans. The officer is responsible for making home and community contacts, preparing Pre-sentence Investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned, and testifying and providing sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Individual counseling experience/casework with adults.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to write reports and communicate effectively.
  • Capable of independent judgment and action.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology/Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
