About the position

The Probation Officer I position involves supervising youth offenders under the guidance of senior staff. The role focuses on investigating, counseling, and providing continuous support to help youth offenders adjust socially and personally. The officer will engage with offenders through various means, including office visits and community contacts, while ensuring compliance with the conditions of their release.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and counsel youth offenders to assist in their social and personal adjustment.
  • Make plans to help youth offenders with life adjustments.
  • Counsel youth offenders through office visits, employment visits, and community contacts.
  • Inform youth offenders of their conditional release requirements, including office visits and restitution payments.
  • Investigate the activities of youth offenders to assess their readjustment to society.
  • Review background histories of youth offenders and gather information from court files and police reports.
  • Testify in court regarding matters related to clients, such as sentencing and violations of probation conditions.
  • Monitor and conduct surveillance of youth offenders.
  • Assist youth offenders with issues related to detainees and sentences in other jurisdictions.
  • Write reports detailing clients' progress and complete necessary paperwork within established time frames.
  • Perform arrests of youth offenders who violate the terms of their release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six months of employment.
