The Probation Officer position in Augusta, GA, is a full-time role that operates under general direction, primarily responsible for supervising a misdemeanor probation caseload in accordance with state and federal laws, as well as company policies. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate operations and services within the community corrections framework. The role demands the capacity to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Candidates must possess a formal education equivalent to a standard two-year college course of study (90 quarter hours/60 semester hours) or have four years of law enforcement experience at the time of appointment. There are exemptions for certain private probation officers and those employed by government entities prior to specific dates. Documentation of education, law enforcement experience, and POST certification is required for this position. The job responsibilities include supervising misdemeanor probationers to ensure compliance with court mandates, collecting court fines and fees, reviewing reports to ensure compliance, preparing data for revocation hearings, and attending violation of probation hearings. The officer will also update case management systems, prepare Violation of Probation Reports, conduct drug and alcohol tests, and may assist in the intake process at court or jail. Additionally, the officer may mentor new probation officers and conduct case audits to ensure compliance with company standards. Travel may be required, and the officer may also be tasked with installing monitoring equipment on probationers as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises misdemeanor probationers ensuring compliance with court mandates by reviewing court conditions and meeting with probationers face to face or via telephone.
  • Collects court fines and fees from probationers.
  • Reviews multiple reports to ensure probationers are compliant with company and local office policies.
  • Prepares and collects data for revocation hearings for the appropriate jail or court.
  • Attends and participates in violation of probation hearings concerning supervised cases.
  • Updates case management system with probationer compliance information and progress.
  • Prepares cases for modification by reviewing files and completing appropriate forms.
  • Prepares Violation of Probation Reports and warrants on a weekly basis and submits to the courts after review.
  • Submits cases for closure in a timely manner according to court mandates and company policy.
  • Conducts drug/alcohol tests as needed or assigned.
  • May assist with the intake process at court or jail.
  • Acts as a liaison between the courts and consults with local judges regarding specific cases.
  • Mentors new probation officers by providing on-the-job training.
  • Conducts case audits of caseload to ensure compliance with company rules and standards.
  • Installs house arrest/alcohol monitoring equipment on probationers as required.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent to a standard two-year college course of study (90 quarter hours/60 semester hours) or four years of law enforcement experience at the time of appointment.
  • Documentation of education, law enforcement experience, and POST certification is required.
  • Experience in a corrections facility medical clinic is preferred.
