About the position

As a Process and Control Automation Engineer at Southwire Company, LLC, you will play a pivotal role in the development, design, maintenance, and commissioning of automation and control systems for industrial equipment. This position requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and practical experience in the chemical or manufacturing industry. You will be responsible for designing and programming logic for PLCs, drive systems, and combustion control systems, as well as developing SCADA and operator interface applications. Your expertise will also extend to designing databases and writing custom computer programs for PLC and SCADA system interfaces. In this role, you will apply standard procedures to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components, diagnose and resolve issues effectively. You will create project manuals and electrical schematics using CAD software, and develop scope of work, cost estimates, and budgets for electrical systems. A significant aspect of your responsibilities will involve gaining an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of SCR systems, including fluid systems, operations, metallurgy, maintenance, material handling, furnace systems, and hands-on machine operation. You will assist with on-site commissioning of all parts of an SCR system and transfer your knowledge to SCR customers through training, discussions, presentations, and startup assistance. Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, maintain, and commission automation and control systems for Industrial Equipment.
  • Design and program logic for PLCs, drive systems, and combustion control systems.
  • Develop SCADA and operator interface applications.
  • Design databases and write custom computer programs for PLC and SCADA system interface.
  • Apply standard procedures to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components, diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Create project manuals and electrical schematics using CAD.
  • Develop scope of work, cost estimates and budgets for electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the chemical or manufacturing industry, such as Industrial processing equipment, instrumentation and control, AC and DC drives, PLCs, combustion systems, design, maintenance and/or operation.
  • Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC and drive experience.
  • CAD experience with AutoCAD.
  • SCADA system and HMI application experience.
  • Computer programming, networking, database, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain in-depth, up-to-date technical knowledge, and to develop into technical resource and subject matter expert.
  • Ability to travel internationally: 35%.
  • Excellent communication, organization, presentation, interpersonal, and project management skills.

  • Experience with Rockwell Automation, PLC-5, ControlLogix, Siemens, S7, TIA portal, HMI, Human Machine Interface, IIoT.
