About the position

As a Process/Application Engineer at Manufacturing Technology, Inc. (MTI), you will play a crucial role in leveraging your engineering skills and manufacturing background to support the application of friction joining technologies in products manufactured by our global customers. This position is based in South Bend, Indiana, and requires your onsite presence. You will be part of a dedicated team of professionals focused on contract friction welding, where you will have the opportunity to investigate and resolve process issues identified by both internal and external customers. Your primary responsibilities will include supporting various departments such as sales, service, contract welding, and equipment manufacturing, ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service and support. In this role, you will integrate systems and production processes, identifying, developing, and implementing improvements to existing manufacturing methods. A strong background in mechanical, manufacturing, welding, or metallurgical engineering is preferred, along with familiarity with CAD programs like SolidWorks and ERP systems such as M2M. Experience in friction welding will be a significant advantage. Your hands-on approach and ability to interpret data and trends will be essential for success in this highly visible role. You will utilize your excellent presentation and business skills to demonstrate your knowledge of quality improvements and innovative ideas, positioning MTI for further expansion in the marketplace. You will be expected to have a solid understanding of process improvements, particularly in friction joining processes, and to have successfully integrated your process background into fully realized projects. Strong organizational skills, sensitivity to deadlines, and problem-solving capabilities will be instrumental in driving the continued growth of friction joining as a preferred method of joining materials across various manufacturing industries worldwide. Responsibilities

  • Leverage process or application engineering skills to support friction joining technologies.
  • Investigate and resolve process problems identified by customers.
  • Support sales, service, contract welding, and equipment manufacturing departments.
  • Identify, develop, and implement improvements to existing manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize CAD programs and ERP systems to enhance production efficiency.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality improvements and innovative ideas to customers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external customers to drive process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Experience in process or application engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or another CAD program.
  • Experience with M2M or a similar ERP system.
  • Hands-on experience in friction welding is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and trends.
  • Excellent presentation and business communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
