About the position

As an Automation Project Engineer at KARL STORZ, you will lead the transformation of manual processes into efficient, automated systems within the medical device manufacturing sector. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to design, qualify, and implement automation solutions, ensuring high-quality standards are met throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Global Research & Development (GRD), Project Engineering, and Operations teams to launch and support serial production.
  • Design and qualify tooling, fixtures, and production equipment.
  • Support and optimize existing automated equipment and processes.
  • Select and qualify equipment and infrastructure, including IQ/OQ/PQ activities.
  • Work with motors, PLCs, HMIs, and other industrial systems.
  • Author and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical or Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in process automation.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with automation, PLCs, HMIs, and process development.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and qualifying equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Familiarity with cobot integration into manufacturing processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working with international teams.
  • Problem-solving expertise using SSGB/SSBB, DMAIC, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience in cleanroom manufacturing environments.
  • IIoT experience focused on data collection and analytics.
  • Expertise in industrial electrical panel design.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar).
  • Experience in HMI/SCADA programming (Unitronics, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
  • Experience with stepper motors and controllers (Schneider Electric or similar).
