About the position

EVRAZ North America is seeking a Process Automation Engineer to join our Maintenance team at our Pueblo, Colorado plant. This role is pivotal in developing new industrial processes and designing new process plants and equipment, or modifying existing ones within an industrial setting. The Process Automation Engineer will support rolling mills and steelmaking production and maintenance at our highly automated steel manufacturing facility. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems, both hardware and software, aimed at improving production times, enhancing steel quality, optimizing equipment performance, reducing energy consumption, minimizing downtime, and advancing process automation. A comprehensive understanding of the company’s process control systems and their impact on the production line is essential, starting from scrap melting through to refining steel, the transformation from liquid to solid, and the final product. You will be expected to make recommendations for development actions, analyze, modify, and improve programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI). Additionally, you will design and monitor performance indicators and create necessary connections between control sites and company information systems. Ongoing maintenance support and resolution of process control system problems will be part of your responsibilities, including taking ownership of such issues until they are resolved. You will also be tasked with writing requirements specifications, high-level design, and systems architecture specifications related to the control of steel production processes, alongside project management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new industrial processes and design new process plants and equipment or modify existing ones.
  • Support rolling mills and steelmaking production and maintenance at a highly automated steel manufacturing plant.
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems (hardware & software) to improve production times, steel quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, and down-time reduction.
  • Obtain a complete understanding of company process control systems and their impact on the production line.
  • Make recommendations for development action; analyze, modify and improve programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI).
  • Design and monitor performance indicators, create necessary bridges between control site and company information systems.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance support and resolution of process control system problems, taking ownership of such problems to completion.
  • Write requirements specifications, and high-level design and systems architecture specifications related to control of steel production processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical education.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including working with Allen-Bradley PLC, drives, HMI software and hardware.
  • Ability to read equipment drawings (hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, etc.).
  • Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Projects, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven teamwork, communication (oral and written), administrative and organizational skills.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Must be available to be on call and assist personnel in times of emergency and business needs.
