About the position

The Automation Process Engineer will play a crucial role in maintaining and expanding the automation and electrical controls of PPG Industries' facilities and equipment. This position will focus on planning and implementing strategic automation objectives while upholding the company's values and goals of safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining existing and expanding automation in the New Albany facility, ensuring safety standards, and executing capital and expense projects to align with the company's growth objectives. In this role, the engineer will report directly to the Facility Engineering Manager at the New Albany site. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining high safety standards and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. The engineer will also maintain and expand the use of automated vision inspection and other online gauging systems within the facility. Additionally, the engineer will assist the maintenance team with complex troubleshooting of automation and electrical controls issues on facility and production equipment. The Automation Process Engineer will implement appropriate root cause and corrective action measures to prevent the reoccurrence of chronic facility and equipment issues. They will execute capital and expense projects for new and existing facility and equipment improvements, following budgetary considerations. Maintaining work areas to industry standards of 5S organization and cleanliness is also a critical part of this role. Furthermore, the engineer will maintain appropriate electrical certifications (i.e., ARC Flash, etc.) as required within the scope of the position and perform other duties as required within the scope of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical preferred, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC systems, robotic automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Capital project management experience.
