About the position

As a Process/Chemical Engineer 1 at Black & Veatch, you will serve as a technical specialist focused on developing innovative process solutions and performing evaluations for water treatment systems. Your role will involve applying fundamental process engineering techniques to address complex water quality treatment challenges. You will be responsible for providing technical assistance on various Drinking Water projects, which may include setting up and running models to evaluate equipment performance and optimize operational efficiency. In this position, you will develop recommendations regarding equipment specifications, operating ranges, and chemical types for both existing and new facilities. You will gain familiarity with departmental design guides, engineering codes, and Black & Veatch policies, contributing to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope. Additionally, you will conduct routine research and manage data relevant to engineering tasks, ensuring that all recommendations are well-supported by empirical evidence. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those with some experience in the field, particularly in environmental water, chemical, or biological processes. You will work in a collaborative environment, leveraging your technical skills in leadership, communication, and teamwork to contribute to the success of your projects and the company as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process solutions and perform treatment evaluations for water quality treatment problems.
  • Set up and run models to evaluate equipment and optimize performance.
  • Develop recommendations for equipment, operating ranges, and chemical types for existing and new facilities.
  • Familiarize yourself with departmental design guides, standards, and applicable engineering codes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies.
  • Perform routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Experience or knowledge in Drinking Water preferred.
  • Strong background in environmental water, chemical, or biological processes and engineering systems.
  • Knowledge of water or wastewater treatment process engineering principles or process modeling software.
  • Technical skills in leadership, collaboration, communication, and teamwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Biological Systems Engineering.
  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification obtained.
